About Jillian Chanel

Jillian Chanel is an author drawn to stories about survival, love, identity, belonging, and the choices people make when life asks more of them than they thought they could give. Rather than staying within a single genre, she follows the story wherever it needs to go—through fantasy worlds, ruined landscapes, historical settings, quiet romances, and places that exist somewhere between the familiar and the impossible.

At the heart of her work are people. Complicated people. Frightened people. Stubborn people. People carrying grief, building families, finding love, making mistakes, surviving impossible circumstances, and figuring out who they want to become afterward. Whether a story unfolds beneath an unfamiliar moon or somewhere much closer to home, Jillian writes with a focus on character, atmosphere, emotional honesty, and worlds that feel lived in long after the final page.

A lifelong storyteller and visual artist, Jillian approaches her books with the same love of detail she brings to her artwork—building not only stories, but the places, histories, cultures, and small human moments that make those stories feel real.

Her work is independently published through Black Unicorn Ink.

Beyond The Page

When she isn’t writing, Jillian can usually be found drawing, designing something for a book that absolutely did not need another design project, researching a wildly specific question for a scene, or developing another story when she already has several waiting patiently for her attention.

About Black Unicorn Ink

Black Unicorn Ink is an independent publishing imprint created to give stories the time, care, and creative freedom they deserve.

Built around a love of distinctive storytelling, strong character work, immersive worlds, and thoughtful presentation, Black Unicorn Ink exists as the publishing home for Jillian Chanel’s work across genres. From fantasy and romance to historical fiction, speculative stories, and everything in between, the goal remains the same: to create books that feel intentional from the first page to the final design.

Independent publishing allows each story to be shaped on its own terms—from the writing and editing to the cover, interior design, and the world surrounding the book. Black Unicorn Ink was created to protect that creative vision while building a catalog of stories meant to stay with readers long after they close the book.

For stories that were never meant to blend in.
